Children ask astonishingly good questions.
Why does something cost so much?
What actually happens to my money?
Why do I feel so strange today?
How does that work?
What if …?
And at some point, the questions become fewer.
Not necessarily because we suddenly know everything. But because, over time, learning often picks up something it never had to begin with: right answers, wrong answers, worksheets, expectations and the feeling of having to be good at something.
And yet almost everything exciting begins with curiosity.
That is exactly where FLITCH begins, too.
We like things that make you want to take a closer look. Stories where something sticks along the way. Characters that suddenly make complicated topics easy to understand. Puzzles where you simply have to know whether you got it right. Pages that give thoughts some room. And ideas that don't underestimate children and teens.
That is why things fit together at FLITCH that might look quite different at first glance.
Four little Business Guinea Pigs can explain what saving, prices or a payslip have to do with real life.
A workbook can help sort thoughts and feelings a little better.
A story can simply be a good story – and still lead someone to ask a new question afterwards.
A puzzle may challenge you.
A journal may calm you down.
A game may teach without feeling like a lesson.
Because we don't believe that learning always has to be recognisable as learning.
Children and teens notice pretty quickly whether they are being taken seriously.
That is why at FLITCH we don't try to make every topic as “childlike” as possible.
We want to make it understandable.
That is a difference.
Money, feelings, decisions, responsibility, technology or the world around us can be topics for children and teens, too. Not with a wagging finger and not more complicated than necessary – but not so simplified that nothing interesting is left.
Children and teens may laugh and understand something at the same time.
They may try things out, fail, ask questions and change their minds.
And so may adults, by the way.
Maybe that is exactly the idea behind FLITCH.
Not even more ways to keep busy.
But things with which you can discover something.
Sometimes a new skill.
Sometimes knowledge.
Sometimes a story.
Sometimes something about yourself.
That is why FLITCH is not meant to be a classic publisher, a learning portal or a collection of interchangeable worksheets.
We build small worlds.
With characters, books, games, puzzles, journals and ideas that are allowed to grow together.
Some of them are funny. Some are calm. Some are pretty clever. And some are simply beautiful, because that has its value too.
What should connect them is a question we keep asking ourselves with every new idea:
Does it make you curious?
If the answer is yes, we are usually on a pretty good path.
Curious minds. Creative lives.
Welcome to FLITCH.
